Does this make scents sense?
When folks pick up a new bar of soap, usually they immediately do the 'scent' test. What does the soap smell like?
It's an interesting phenomenon to witness the next time you're in a farmers market, you'll observe almost everyone who picks up a new soap does the scent test. It's almost like were programmed to do it.
This initial test we put soaps through is sometimes the only test we use to determine if we like or dislike a soap. If it has a fragrance that doesn't appeal, we'll immediately set it down and move on. Yes, the scent test is the powerful first impression and often the only impression the consumer uses to determine if they purchase a bar of soap.
In this area, Less Soap is unique. Our soap doesn't contain ANY fragrances. You'll be hard pressed to smell anything when you put our soap to the scent test. You might say we don't compete on the aroma front. As soap, which is considered a 'wash off' product that is designed to clean the body, it doesn't make sense to add fragrances which can cause skin irritation and only end up washing down the drain anyway. In our mind, fragrances in soap are much like the toy in a box of cereal designed to entice the kids to choose them over some other junk food cereal.
We choose the road less traveled. We don't want fragrances in our soaps and we don't believe adding them makes for a better product but rather the opposite. The exception to this ideal might be when soapers make soap for the purpose of gifting often to serve as a display accent in a bathroom. We understand there is a market for this type of 'artsy' soap but we don't compete in that segment of the industry. Our soap is crafted with the mindset that it will be used.
We encourage the consumer to consider the ingredients first as the deciding factor on whether a soap is worthy or not. Besides, it's not like there is any shortage of soaps loaded with fragrance. So we're doing it differently.
We hope you join us on this 'rebellious' path against the tide and choose 'the soap that doesn't smell'. Your skin will thank you for it!
